Cadence Bank Deputy General Counsel Allison Skinner Receives Prestigious “Award of Merit” by Alabama State Bar

BIRMINGHAM, June 26, 2020 - Cadence Bank Deputy General Counsel Allison Skinner has been named the 2020 Award of Merit recipient by the Alabama State Bar. The award is the highest honor given by the Alabama State Bar to an individual attorney and serves to recognize outstanding service in the legal profession.
“We are thrilled for Allison and congratulate her on receiving this great honor from the Alabama State Bar,” said Jerry Powell, General Counsel of Cadence Bank. “Allison is a driven and established litigation lawyer, whose wealth of knowledge has been deeply instrumental in supporting our in-house legal team.”
Skinner has been a part of Cadence Bank for over three years, where she focuses on corporate governance, risk management, litigation and various corporate matters. Prior to joining Cadence, Skinner handled complex litigation for domestic and international clients and served as the administrative partner of the Birmingham office of a regional law firm for over 14 years. Following her litigation practice, Skinner founded her own law firm offering alternative dispute resolution services pioneering the use of neutrals for electronic discovery disputes nationally.
She was recently elected by the attorneys of the 10th Judicial Circuit to serve her third term as a Board of Bar Commissioner to the Alabama State Bar.  Allison chairs the Alabama State Bar’s 19th Amendment Task Force to celebrate the Centennial of the advent of women’s suffrage, and under her leadership, the organization has collaborated with multiple organizations across the state.  She has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama School of Law and as a visiting professor at the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law and is an active member of the Birmingham Bar Association, where she serves as Secretary/Treasurer for 2020. As a Member-at-Large on the BBA’s Women Lawyer’s Section, she is a four-time recipient of its Distinguished Service Award. She also was the recipient of the 2019 Susan Bevill Livingston Leadership Award, an award presented by the Alabama State Bar’s Women’s Section to one recipient annually to recognize a woman committed to leadership, service and mentoring.  Allison has also been recognized by the Girl Scouts of Northern Alabama as a Woman of Distinction.
Skinner received her B.A. in International Studies and J.D. from the University of Alabama.
The Alabama State Bar will present the Award of Merit virtually at its Annual Meeting on June 26, 2020.
