Banking and Family Are Built on Relationships

Michael Meyers, a long-term customer in Augusta, Georgia, learned the importance of financial education and a banking relationship from his role model: his grandfather.
For Michael Meyers, family has always been at the heart of everything he does. A loyal Cadence Bank customer for 26 years, Michael’s journey with the bank began with a lesson from his grandfather, a man who profoundly impacted his life.
“My grandfather’s probably been the most impactful person in my entire life. My life has always been trying to somewhat emulate him,” recalled Michael. “He went into the Army; I went into the Army. Anything he advised me to do, I did.”
A seventeen-year-old Michael was getting ready to enter military service five days after graduating from high school. To receive U.S. Army pay, he needed a bank account for direct deposit, so Michael’s grandfather drove him to Cadence Bank to start one.
“We walked in, met with Miss Tina, and that’s where the relationship formed,” said Michael.
Tina D’Antignac has been in banking for over 40 years. Customer relationships are everything to her, and seeing those relationships transcend generations makes her job special.
“Michael was a young guy,” said Tina. “He banked with us the whole time he was in Atlanta. When he moved back [to Augusta], he never lost the relationship. He sent every family member he has and said, ‘Go see Miss Tina.’”
After finishing service in the Army, Michael returned to Augusta and continued to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps by working on becoming a community leader and source of wisdom for his own family members. He has helped younger family members build financial stability by getting them into banking early.
“Banking is such a serious thing. It’s something that affects your entire future. You have to be wise when you decide where to bank,” said Michael. “I’m glad that my grandfather walked me into this bank 26 years ago. It’s probably one of the best decisions that ever happened in my life.”
