Cadence Bank First Interactive Teller Using APTRA Tech

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Nov. 7, 2013 — Cadence Bank announces the launch of Birmingham’s first interactive teller units utilizing APTRA™ video technology from NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), extending the bank’s customer service hours and offering a more flexible, efficient banking experience.

Now fully operational, Cadence’s two drive-up interactive teller units are located at the corner of 23rd Street and Third Avenue North in Downtown Birmingham, providing a new banking location for Cadence customers. Heralding advanced technology with a human touch, the new service is called Cadence LIVE.

“We’re excited to be early adopters of this revolutionary technology that addresses the convenience customers want while maintaining a high service standard,” said Sam Tortorici, Cadence Bank CEO. “At Cadence, we’re leveraging technology in multiple ways to create a richer, more convenient banking experience for our clients. Customers today are interested in banking anywhere, anytime, and they want access to live bank personnel beyond traditional business hours.”

Remote teller service is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST Mondays through Fridays, and 8 a.m.–12 p.m. CST on Saturdays, more than doubling the bank’s customary branch service hours.

Using high-definition video chat technology, customers connect with a live teller in Cadence’s Starkville, Miss.-based Operations Center to conduct many of the same transactions as if they were across the counter from the teller.

Remote transaction processing technology enables the teller to assist with deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, bill and loan payments, and account transfers. The teller remotely controls the machine and all its functions, making it possible to conduct more complex transactions beyond dispensing cash or accepting a deposit.

For example, this technology allows a teller to:

  • Verify a customer’s identity by checking their driver’s license, and execute a transaction even if the customer does not have their debit card.

  • Dispense varied denominations of bills, including singles or fives.

  • Cash a check, even to the penny.

  • Conduct faster, more efficient transactions as the machine automatically counts cash and tallies check deposits.

  • Post deposits to a customer’s account sooner as compared to those made through a traditional ATM, which generally take a day or two to process.
Tortorici continued, “With these interactive teller machines, we’re offering our customers the flexibility of banking early or late, and at the same time providing them with personalized interaction that’s highly secure. I think our clients may be pleasantly surprised when the teller asks them, ‘How’s your day going?’”

A traditional ATM machine also is located at the new banking location. Cadence will install an additional drive-up and two walk-up APTRA Interactive Tellers in Birmingham later this year at locations yet to be determined.
